S27853 SS-UNTERSCHARFÜHRER'S PHOTOGRAPH POSTCARD.
(Photographie Postkarte) BACKGROUND: Basic human instinct dictates that soldiers in the field, regardless of nationality, long for their loved ones at home. As a result it was very common for these soldiers to purchase, or appropriate, "sweetheart" items and send them home. Although there was almost an unlimited selection of "sweetheart" items one of the most popular items were the photograph postcards which were relatively inexpensive, easily mailed and distinctly personal. There were also numerous other reasons to pose for a photograph, including new appointments, promotions, weddings anniversaries etc., etc. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 5 3/8" x 3 3/8", light weight cardstock postcard with a black and white portrait style photograph of a young SS-Unterscharführer wearing a field-grey visor cap and M40 style field-grey tunic. The visible uniform details include the cap insignia, shoulder straps, collar tabs and collar tress trim, a whistle lanyard, an Iron Cross 2ND class ribbon, an Infantry Assault Badge, a DRL Sports Badge and an EM/NCO’s belt buckle. The reverse of the postcard has handwritten Sütterlin script that appears to include the photography subjects name and the date, "Juni 1942". The postcard is in overall very good condition with minimal age yellowing. Nice image.GRADE **** PRICE $120.00
