S010494 SS SD EM/NCO'S CUFFTITLE. (Ärmelstreiffen)

BACKGROUND: The command structure of the SS was highly complex and had many different levels and offices with numerous functions. The basic regional organizational infrastructure of the Allgemeine SS, (General SS), began with the SS Oberabschnitte, (SS Districts), which corresponded roughly to the German Armed Forces, Wehrkreis, (Military Districts). Each SS Oberabschnitte contained two or three SS Abschnitte, (SS Sub Districts), and each SS Abschnitte was comprised of two to four SS Fuss Standarten, (SS Foot Regiments), and additional subordinate units which included SS Nachrichteneinheiten, (SS Signals Unit), and a SS Pioniereinheiten, (SS Combat Engineer Unit). In June 1931 the SS expanded with the formation of the SS SD, SS Sicherheitsdienst und Sicherheitspolizei, (SS Security Service and Security Police), and further expansion in March 1933 brought about the formation of the SS VT, SS Verfügungstruppe, (SS Special Purpose Troops), which also contained subordinate Signals and Combat Engineer units. Personnel serving as a staff leader with the Allgemeine SS Signals and Combat Engineer units, and for a short time the SS VT Signals and Combat Engineer units, were issued a blank cufftitle to be worn on the lower left sleeve of the service uniform. Personnel serving as a staff member of a SS SD Oberabschnitt or SD Unterabschnitt, (SD District/Sub District), were also allocated a blank cufftitle to be worn on the lower left sleeve of the service uniform. Therefore, this example could have been worn by a leader on the staff of a SS Signals unit, the leader on the staff of a SS Pionier, (Combat Engineer), unit or a staff member of a SS SD Oberabschnitt or SD Unterabschnitt, (SD District/Sub District).

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Machine woven black rayon construction, RZM pattern cufftitle with horizontally interwoven, seven strand, bright silver/aluminum threads to both the top and bottom edges. Uniform removed. Nice worn and used example showing the expected age and wear.
