S010295 SD UNTERSCHARFÜHRER'S SERVICE TUNIC. (Dienstrock)
BACKGROUND: The SS Sicherheits Dienst, (SS Security Service), was instituted in June 1931 as the German national counter espionage agency and was entrusted with control of internal national security under the auspices of the Sicherheitsdienst des Reichsführer SS, (Security Service of the National Leader of the SS). SS and SD uniforms followed the same basic designs and evolved from the early "traditional" brown shirt uniform, to the black and earth grey service uniforms in 1932 to the first field grey uniforms in 1935.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Field grey wool/rayon blend construction tunic features a four button front closure with folded back, open lapels and a lay down collar. Tunic has two pleated patch breast pockets and two diagonally angled slash hip pockets, all with scalloped button down flaps. Sleeves have fold back French cuffs which are lightly stitched in the upright position. Collar tabs, shoulder boards, arm eagle, cufftitle and SD sleeve diamond all look to be original application. Lay down collar has the typical zig zag reinforcement stitching to reverse. Interior of tunic is fully lined in grey rayon with white ribbed rayon sleeves. Lining has horizontal slash breast pocket to left breast. Original dagger support strap is present. Front closure and pocket buttons are all the magnetic sheet metal pebbled type and most appear to have original stitching. Original award loops for two breast badges and a ribbon bar. Tunic is roughly size 34" chest. Nice!
