S009795 “DEUTSCHLAND" OFFICER'S CUFFTITLE. (Ärmelstreiffen)

BACKGROUND: The SS VT Standarte 1 was allotted the honorary title, "Deutschland", at the Nürnberg rally in September 1935, and in November 1935 personnel of the Standarte were authorized wear of a cufftitle with Gothic script. In October 1939 the Standarte became a component of the newly formed SS VT Division (mot.), which would eventually evolve into the 2.Panzer Division "Das Reich". In December 1939 the script on the cufftitle was altered to Latin script.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Early (pre December 1939), woven black rayon cufftitle with hand embroidered Gothic script, "Deutschland", in silver/aluminum wire threads. The cufftitle is bordered at top and bottom edges in horizontally woven, seven strand, silver/aluminum wire threads. Of Note: Eventually the SS VT Standarte 1 evolved into the 3RD Regiment of the Waffen SS 2.Panzer Division "Das Reich" and the regimental personnel retained the authorization to wear the cufftitle. Original RZM tag still sewn to one end. Nice!
