S009495 "FRUNDSBERG" EM/NCO'S CUFFTITLE. (Ärmelstreiffen)

BACKGROUND: In December 1942 Adolf Hitler authorized the formation of a new Waffen SS division which was official formed on February 1ST 1943 as the 10TH SS Panzer Division. In April 1943 the designation of the division was altered to, 10TH SS Panzer Grenadier Division and it was allotted the honor title "Karl der Große", (Charlemagne). Although Charlemagne was a historical significant military leader Hitler disliked the title and as a result regulations of October 3RD 1943 altered the honor title to Frundsberg after the legendary German military hero Georg von Frundsberg who had lived from 1473 to 1528 and had fought with the Hapsburg’s in successive battles against the French, Swiss, Venetians and the Dutch. Frundsberg was also credited with forming the professional Landsknecht, (16TH century mercenaries). The October 3RD 1943 regulations also introduced an honor cufftitle "Frundsberg". On November 20TH 1943 the division received its final designation as 10TH SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg". Of Note: The honor title Charlemagne was eventually allotted to the Waffen Grenadier Brigade der SS "Charlemagne" (franzoische Nr.1), on August 28TH 1944 which would be redesignated 33RD Waffen Grenadier Division der SS "Charlemagne" (franzoische Nr.1)on February 10TH 1945.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Machine woven, black rayon construction cufftitle with BeVo, machine woven Latin script, "Frundsberg" in silvery/grey rayon threads. The cufftitle is bordered at both the top and bottom edges with interwoven, vertically stitched, silvery/grey rayon threads. Typical "salt & pepper" pattern reverse.
