S004595 "SS-TV" K98 RIFLE.

BACKGROUND: The K98k rifle evolved from the WWI Mauser Gew 98 model with slight modifications. The main modification was the shortening of the rifle. Due to restrictions of the Versailles Treaty the K98, wasn’t actual produced in Germany until 1934, although the Mauser company had licenced out production rights to other European countries. Originally the K98's were constructed with good quality walnut stocks and tooled steel fittings but as the war progressed these were replaced by cheaper beech wood and ply wood stocks and stamped metal fittings.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Insanely rare SS-TV marked K98. All matching numbers.  Rifle was professionaly converted to 8 X 60mm OR 8 x 64mm (only slight modification of the chamber and nothing else) in the 1970's or 1990's. Note from the consignor. "The modification was done in France before the 90's (well before the creation of the EU), at a time when many more kinds of ammo were available to civilian use than currently. Comes with two firing pins. The one apart is indeed the original to the rifle and CAN fire a cartridge. The second, inside the rifle, CANNOT fire any cartridge at all (its tip was cut off). We recommend taking this to a licensed gunsmith to have the exact caliber checked out before operating. Also comes with some excellent research photo copies on SS marked 98k's. RARE!!!
