BACKGROUND: The Bahnschutzepolizei, (Railway Protection Police), were established, by the DR, Deutsches Reichsbahn, (German Railways), in 1933 with voluntary personnel drawn from the SA and SS, to protect the railway network. Originally personnel wore navy blue uniforms and headgear, as the DR personnel but this was eventually changed to blue/grey uniforms and headgear.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This grouping consists of an overseas cap, field blouse, service trousers, belt and cross strap.

1. Blue/grey, wool/rayon blend side cap with gently sloping, fold down side panels. Boat form cap has light grey wool piping to top edge, and down front center seam. Machine woven tri-color cockade, on a mid-blue rayon diamond base. Machine woven, Bahnschutzepolizei pattern, national eagle in white threads on a cut-out woven blue/grey rayon base, handstitched to front. Cap fully lined in mid-blue ribbed rayon that is well marked with a Rbnr #, Size 58 and dated for 1943. Cap in overall very good condition with a hole to the top between the piping and the crown. Untouched original condition. Very nice.

2. The matching blue/grey wool constructed tunic has a five button front that leads to a single hook and eyelet to the throat with a blue lay down wool collar. A pair of matching shoulder insignia show the rank of Unterwachtmeister. The pleated breast pockets and hip patch pockets have button scallop flaps. Three reinforced stitched holes are to the front to allow for dagger hangers. Each cuff is adjustable via vis a pair of small buttons. The interior is fully lined with the original paper manufacture tag in place, as well as black ink stampings. The chest measures approximately 40". All buttons and all or most of the stitching appear to be original to the tunic.

3. The nice quality blue-grey wool construction service trousers are piped in light grey wool. All original stitching and buttons. They are nicely marked to the interior of the waistband. They have a waist measuring approximately 36" with a 31" breech. They have a nice pressed seam to the front. There is surface wear to the wool along the pressed seams and a section across the full front across the pockets.

4. The Ersatz constructed belt and cross strap of black pressed card stock. The double prong buckle has one prong completely missing, while the remaining prong is very fragile and barely intact. The belt measures approximately 4.5cm wide x 40" long, while the cross strap measures approximately 2cm wide x 84cm long in itís entirety. The spring clips are D.R.G.M. marked, as well as having an "Assman" marking and one having a "39" marking. The cross strap is also embossed "Ehren Kompanie, Bz. 15, Koln".
