BACKGROUND: The Berliner Illustrierte Zeitung (Berlin Illustrated Newspaper) was the most popular of the weekly newspapers with its circulation reaching over 2 million during the mid 1920's. As with all media in Germany during the 1933 to 1945 period it became another outlet of the NSDAP propaganda machine.
