N030981 SA-RESERVE MEMBER'S ARMBAND. (Armelbinde)
BACKGROUND: The SA established reserve units as early as 1927, open to fit men over the age of forty. They were formally organized in 1929, and their structure was revised in 1933, creating SA-Reserve I, open to those between the ages of eighteen to thirty-five, and SA-Reserve II, open to those between the ages of thirty-five and forty-five. In addition to other distinguishing insignia, personnel of SA-Reserve II wore swastika armbands with silver-grey bands along their upper and lower edges. SA-Reserve II was absorbed into the regular SA in 1935.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Red cotton BeVo patternarmband, upon which is machine woven a white cotton disk and black mobile swastika. Grey rayon stripes are sewn to the top and bottom edges. The armbandís vertical seam is to the reverse. Scarce.
