N024180 BDM "GRUPPENFÜHRERIN" RANK INSIGNIA. (Dienstgradabzeichen)

BACKGROUND: The BDM, "Bund Deutscher Mädel" (League [of] German Girls), was the female version of the Hitler Youth, whose first female group established in 1927 evolved into the BDM by July 1930, and by July 1932 it had gained equal political status with the HJ. In 1938 a new series of rank insignia was introduced for wear by the ranks of "Gruppenführerin" and above, which was shield-shaped, with a dark blue base for the regular uniform jacket, and with a white base for the summer jacket. Higher ranks were indicated by the addition of single or double borders, and higher still by the coloration of its central eagle device being in gold rather than silver.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: An approximately 80mm x 70mm, shield-shaped patch in extremely dark blue, almost black, for wear on the dark blue uniform jacket, upon which is hand embroidered a silver, flared-winged eagle with a black mobile swastika to its breast and unit number "76". The edges of the patch are folded over and sewn unto the muslin backing to the reverse. Original HJ/RZM tag is complete. Nice!
