As a military item, these drums were usually sold in pairs to produce slightly different tones depending on whether they were being used mounted on a horse or on a tripod. Originally, boiler makers that specialized in copper produced these drums, therefore leading to the name "Kessel". The animal skin head measures approximately 57cm in diameter and 63cm diameter overall (including the rim) and 40cm tall. There are six turning screws or tension rods to the rim to adjust the tension of the drum head. The brass "boiler" shows moderate/heavy usage and wear with a few larger dents present . A 2cm wide hole is to the bottom (presumably for mounting???). Including are a pair of wood and felt mallets that measure approximately 25cm long with a 8cm long head. It is difficult to determine a time period for the drum as it is not marked and could date anywhere from the 1900-1940. The skin fully intact!!
