N008581 HJ FIRE DEFENCE SLEEVE BADGE. (HJ Feuerwehrscharen Ärmelabzeichen)

BACKGROUND: In early 1938 the "Reichsjugendführung" (National-youth-leadership) and the "Reichsführer-SS und Chef der Deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern" (National-leader - SS and Chief of-the German Police in-the National-ministry of-the Interior) met to discuss utilizing Hitler Youth personnel as volunteers in a Fire Defence Service. As a result of that meeting, the first HJ volunteer Fire Defence Service units were established at Celle and Osnabrück later that year. Regulations of June 30TH, 1939, dictated that these volunteer units were to be subordinate to the "HJ-Streifendienst" (HJ Patrol-service), and be grouped with the "Feuerlöschdienstreserve" (Fire-fighting-service-reserve). In March of 1941 a distinctive sleeve badge was introduced for those who had passed the Fire Service test, which was then worn on the left forearm of the khaki-brown HJ Fire Fighting tunic.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A machine woven badge, in the form of a 45mm x 85mm vertical diamond, which features the Police emblem of an eagle and swastika against an oval wreath of oak leaves, all in a carmine color, with red flames with white articulations rising above it. The diamond has a thin carmine border, which distinguishes it as for enlisted personnel (as opposed to the white border reserved for leaders), and its upper and lower divisions are in black, and its left and right in white, in imitation of a Hitler Youth diamond. Complete with original factory roll backing. Originals are scarce.
