C09749 "THE PEOPLE'S WAR BOOK & ATLAS," WITH LT-COLONEL (BILLY) W. A. BISHOP’S AUTOGRAPH.
A 7 3/8" x 10 1/4", hardcover, 914 page book lavishly illustrated with black-and-white photographs, charts, color paintings and maps. The first 520 pages are "The People’s War Book" and feature a detailed, illustrated history of the war supplemented with official war reports chronicling both America’s and Canada’s part in it. Relative facts, stories and incidents, a "War Cyclopedia," the twenty-five articles comprising the Constitution of the League of Nations, the fifteen sections detailing the German Treaty of Peace, and the Austrian Treaty of Peace, are among the articles concluding the first part of the book. What follows is "The People’s Pictorial Atlas of the World," with both descriptive text and color maps of all of the states of America, the provinces of the Dominion of Canada, and the rest of the world. Of particular interest is the frontispiece, which has a photograph of Victoria Cross winner and "Ace of Aces" William ("Billy") A. Bishop, with his actual signature beneath. Among the opening pages is a "Roll of Honor" with the name and some information concerning an engineer to it. To one of the last pages is glued a 1936 newspaper clipping concerning the misadventures of a Claremont man. Some chafe wear may be seen to the spine, and the binding is beginning to separate to the end-papers, otherwise, light age yellowing to the pages is the only distracting feature.GRADE ***3/4 PRICE $205.00
