C076973 CANADIAN MKII COMBAT HELMET.
BACKGROUND: The standard Canadian Infantry helmet, as used throughout World War II, being a modification of the Mk. I helmet introduced in April of 1916 and used during the First World War. Production of the MK II helmet began in 1938 and the first units were delivered to the armed forces in 1939. The helmet retained its predecessorís shape but improved the steel, liner and chin strap.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Constructed entirely of non-magnetic steel, the basin-shaped helmet, with an all-around visor, retains 90% of its original paint. Has some dents to the top of the crown. Maker marked "G.S.W." (General Steel Wares). With the marking D P & H, this helmet was made for home service of a softer grade of steel. It was intended for Air Raid precaution personnel etc. The DP & H stands for Department of Pension and Health. These helmets were not worn by the army and were not sent overseas. (thank you Bill and Mark). Complete liner. Nice complete chinstrap. Size marked 7 1/8th.
