C043287 U.S. 28TH INFANTRY DIVISION SHOULDER FLASH.

BACKGROUND: The 28th "Keystone" inf. division was originally formed by Pennsylvanian National Guard. They entered into the fighting at Huergten in 1944. By November mid November all officers in the 28th on company level or lower were either wounded or killed. In December the 28th relocated for rest to the Ardennes sector. Of course just in time for the German to launch their Ardennes offensive where the 28th took yet again very heavy casualties. The shoulder flash would soon gain the nickname "bucket of blood".

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A formed piece of red wool that measures approximately 5.5cm x 5.5cm.
