C039177 DUTCH M1895 RIFLE BAYONET& SCABBARD.

BACKGROUND: Designed for the M1895 Mannlicher rifle, the Dutch, in 1904 started production of the bayonets after years of being manufactured by German suppliers. They were produced at the "Staatsbedrijf der Artillerie Inrichtingen" in Zaandam (marked with HEMBURG). This bayonet was produced until 1940.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: An army bayonet with a 35cm long pointed, triangular, T-back blade with markings to the crossguard of "8829 DD" and to the ricasso of "HEMBURG" and a Crown over the letter "Z" which represents "Wiessma" which was active through WWI. Overall, the bayonet measures approximately 47cm long. The army leather scabbard measures approximately 54cm long with 7mm brass rivets, brass stud for the retaining strap, reinforced stitch up the reverse and has a number embossed to the reverse of the frog (5481?), but cannot find any other markings.
