C037689 WWI FRENCH "PARAMOUNT 1915 PISTOL DE GUERRE" (Inert/Deactivated).

Background: Adopted by the French Army in May, 1915 as the 'Pistolet Automatique de millimètre 65 genre "Ruby"' due to a shortage of domestically-produced handguns, the initial contract of 10,000 pistols a month was awarded to the firm of Gabilondo y Urresti in Spain. In August, that number was raised to 30,000 a month followed by another increase to 50,000 a month shortly thereafter. Gabilondo quickly contracted with 4 other firms in order to fulfill this contract as it didn't have the capacity to fulfill it on it's own. Gabilondo would produce 10,000 pistols a month while each of it's sub-contractors would produce 5,000 a month. Gabilondo later contracted with an additional 6 firms in order to fulfill it's French contract. Additionally, at least 45 other companies contracted with the French government directly for their own copies of the Ruby. In total, the French government bought approximtely 710,000 Ruby-type pistols during the war. They were used by the French Army until the adoption of a more modern pistol design in 1935.
