C037483 WWII RAF, WARRANT OFFICER "K.W. Living" NAVIGATOR BATTLE DRESS AND FLIGHT HELMET.
An unlined, air force blue wool tunic, with a five-button single-breasted fly front closure and a lay-down collar with dual hooks and eyes at the throat. There are two pleated patch breast pockets, whose scalloped flaps have hidden button closures. Sewn to the left breast, just above the pocket, is a Navigator Wing. The outside seam slashes at the pleated cuffs also have hidden button closures. A Warrant Officer rank badge is sewn to each arm, just above the cuff. All of the buttons appear to retain their original stitching. An integral belt, with a metal buckle and vertical retaining loop on its opposite side, is to the waist band. Several pleats are above the reverse waistband. Sewn is an added section of pocket (possibly from another tunic) to the interior right breast is a white oilcloth tag with "Blouses, Blue, Grey, Air Crew, Size no. 10, Height 5ft 9 in. To 5 ft. 10 in., Breast 36 ins to 37 ins, Verner & Baxter Ltd., and a broad arrow. It also bears the handwritten name "K.W. Living." Under this "pocket" is the tag original to this battledress that reads "War Service Dress Blouse, Size no. 8, Height 5'7" to 5'8", Breast 37" to 38", Waist 33", J.D. Fieldman & Co., Ltd. , 1945". The handwritten name Living, K.W. is also present. The wool shows moderate/heavy usage and wear with tearing to the right breast pocket. A type "C", first pattern, helmet made with a soft blackened chrome leather exterior and a chamois lined interior. To either side on the exterior are sewn open ended rubber cups into which are inserted the earphones that are part of the type 26 magnetic microphone set. Just above the ear cups to the front and back are sewn short leather straps with snaps to the ends that were used to hold the goggle strap in place. In front of the ear cups at the edge of either side of the facial opening are three male snaps, with the right side having the quick disconnect hook for the oxygen mask attached. The chamois lined interior has two round reinforced ear openings that correspond with the ear phone cups on the exterior. To the interior crown is sewn a small cloth tag with the text "SIZE 2", "6 7/8 TO 7", "A M", "22C/450" with a Kings crown to the center. Hand written to the interior is the serial number for "K.W. Living" "1584231. Included with the helmet is the wiring harness which consists of the two earphones, type 32, ref # "10A/13466" with broad arrow as well as the wiring harness for a microphone.
