C036875 STALAG 308 DOG TAG.

BACKGROUND: Stalag VII-E, or Stalag 308, for non-commissioned servicemen, was located near the village of Neuhammer, Silesia in Poland . It was build on a large German army training ground that is still being used today by the Polish Land Forces, 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade. It was built in September of 1939 to originally house prisoners from the Invasion of Poland and later French prisoners from the Battle of France in 1940. In 1941, the French and Pole POW’s were transferred to other camps and replaced by Soviet prisoners. In 1942, Stalag 308 held more than 100,000 soldiers.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 6cm x 4cm metal alloy grey painted dog tag with three drilled holes and a perforated line to the middle. Information is only to one side and includes "Stalag 308" "24459."
