A multi-panel, leather construction, three quarter length, sleeveless, collarless, jerkin with a vertical one of the original four button front closure. The interior of the jerkin is fully lined in green melton wool. The interior lining has a white oilcloth label machine stitched in place. The label has black printed script that includes "Jerkins No. 2- Leather", "Size No. 2", "Height 5' 7" to 5' 10"", "Breast 37" to 43"", "(Over Jacket)" "Made By Wareings (Northhampton) Ltd." with the date "1943" and is broad arrow marked. The buttons are the large molded brown bakelite type and appear to have their original stitching. The jerkins were cut large enough to fit over the standard battledress uniform and this example is roughly size 43" chest. To the reverse of this jerkin is a hand painted design that shows age and wear, but remains a good quality design. The jerkin also shows signs of a ripped shoulder seam, as well as some picks to the leather. RCAF vet aquired in Fredericton!
