C034480 GURKHA "PILLBOX" HAT.

1920's or 1930's period Gurkha Pillbox Cap. Black felt in a circular "pillbox" form, classic to the Gurkhas. Circular white ink stamp in the inside dome, illegible, possibly a size or a maker. Old Gurkha silver insignia for the 8th Gurkha Rifles properly affixed to the crown with a cotter pin. Small hooks inside on the left and right interior for attaching a chinstrap, not present. Hat is possibly earlier, as this style was worn throughout the 19th century, but the construction (especially the chinstrap attachment hardware) appears to be early 20th century. Excellent condition, very difficult hat to find for some reason. "Rare" is a reasonable adjective for this hat!
