BACKGROUND: The standard holster for the M1911 Colt pistol was first developed in 1916 and remained in production for the US Army all the way to 1945. During the Second world war there where some 3 million examples produced from 1941 to 1945 by various manufacturers.

BACKGROUND: Brown leather holster with blackened brass fittings for the M1911 .45 caliber automatic pistol. The top fold-over flap has "US" within a horizontal oval embossed to it and single stud hole. Both the obverse and reverse base of the holster body has a brass ventilation grommet. The reverse features a riveted leather section with two vertical slashes to draw a belt through, surmounted by a brass hook for the same purpose. Between the vertical slashes is impressed "BOYT" "E.T.C." The interior of the holster has a built-up section, evidently for positioning the pistol more securely. All of the stitching is intact, and the still supple leather exhibits only light chafe wear and surface scratches..
