BACKGROUND: The RCAF "Zip" fight helmet was originally almost the identical pattern to the British "B" pattern helmet. There where two different pattern produced during the war, with the later patter being a tighter design. Both helmet where worn during the entire span of the war from 1939 to 1945.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Second pattern RCAF "Zip" fight helmet made with a medium brown leather exterior and a chamois lined interior. To either side on the exterior are round hand stitched dome pockets with zipper closures that are designed for radio earphones. To the rear of the helmet is a vertical adjustment slit with a short leather strap and buckle to one side though which the leather adjustment strap is threaded. There are two leather straps with original snaps on the reverse of the helmet used to secure the flight goggles. The two piece chin strap consists of a gripper buckle sewn to one side and a leather strap to the other. The chamois lined interior has two round reinforced ear openings that correspond with the ear domes on the exterior. Decent large size. Nicely RCAF marked.
