C025274 U.S. M1936 PISTOL BELT WITH M1916 COLT PISTOL HOLSTER.
BACKGROUND: The webbed pistol belt was originally introduced in 1912 (M1912). The belts where designed for durability and the easy attachment and where of various accouterments. The final version of the belt used during WW2 was introduced in 1936 (M1936). The standard holster for the M1911 Colt pistol was first developed in 1916 and remained in production for the US Army all the way to 1945.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Approximately 39" (98cm) long, khaki webbed canvas construction with 17 sets of triple blackened eyelets for the easy attachment of various field equipment with blackened "T" closure. The alloy metal ends show wear as well as some of the eyelets. There is staining to the surface and a "U.S." black ink stamp to the front. The brown leather holster with brass fittings has a top fold-over flap has "US" within a horizontal oval embossed to it and single stud hole. Both the front and reverse base of the holster body has a brass ventilation grommet. The reverse features a riveted leather section with two vertical slashes to draw a belt through, surmounted by a brass hook for the same purpose. Between the vertical slashes is impressed "U.S" and an un-discernable manufacture logo. All of the stitching is intact with the leather showing usage, wear and cracking, but still supple.
