C023785 BRITISH ISSUE HELMET NETTING.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the helmet net was threefold. To breakup the solid color of the helmet, to reduce the amount of light that could be reflected off it’s surface and to dampen the sound if it fell. Helmet nets were made of cotton cords woven and dyed according to the area of operation that it would be used in. Those for use in tropical locales were also treated to prevent rotting. Vegetation, and strips of burlap were often woven into the holes of the netting for further concealment.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A circular camouflage net, in brown tones with original draw string. Great condition.
