C016657 BRITISH GUN LAYER'S SLEEVE BADGE.

BACKGROUND: A wide variety of badges, both official and unofficial, were worn by Commonwealth soldiers throughout the war. Where they were worn on the uniform signified what they were for. Tradesman badges were worn on the right forearm, skill at arms badges on the left forearm and instructors on the arm towards the center or above the stripes for a sergeant but below the rank for a warrant officer.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A round badge, about 1 1/2" in diameter, of a, cream colored, machine embroidered gothic "L" above a laurel wreath on a khaki cloth backing. To the reverse is a loose woven black cloth backing which is partially covered with glue. The badge is in good condition and appears to be unused.
