C015495 U.S. M1941 "SECOND PATTERN" FIELD JACKET.

BACKGROUND: The M1941 jacket is also known as the "Parson’s Jacket" after the designer Maj. General J.K. Parsons. This field jacket was standard issue to all corps with the exception of the Navy. It is a light weight short jacket that would not keep someone warm due to the light weight material used. Also, due to the cotton used, it was thought to produce a sheen which lead to the jackets being worn inside out as the wool is duller in appearance.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A wind proof, olive drab, cotton poplin, lined with a olive drab wool. A Talon zipper (which still functions) is sewn to the front under a storm flap of five button holes. Five brown bakelite button remains sewn to the front. Slash pockets and epaulets are the defining features of the second pattern. The cuffs and waist can be adjusted with tabs and buttons. A small tag to the interior shows the size as “34". The interior is wool lined. The zipper is in good working order.
