BACKGROUND: Organized in November of 1918 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, the 101st Infantry used the screaming eagle in design of their badge, which was approved in 1923. They began WW II as an infantry division but with the creation of the airborne they were reorganized as the 101st Airborne Division.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A two piece machine embroidered, shield shaped badge of a white bald eagles head with a gold beak and red tongue on a black background. An arching tab with "Airborne" in gold on a black background is included.
