C007879 BRITISH (HSAT) MK I PARATROOPER'S HELMET.
The steel alloy (non magnetic) helmet retains a good portion of its original olive drab paint. This first pattern helmet, introduced in 1942 and distinguishable from later variants by the 25mm wide fibre band which encircles its rim, was worn until the end of the war by paratroopers, airborne and glider-borne units. Nice complete liner and chinstrap system. One of the bolts is missing that holds the rear chinstrap in place (has been tied with a string), but the other three are complete. Nicely maker marked "BMB 1942" for Briggs Motor Bodies Ltd of Dagenham. Size marked 6 5/8. Rare helmet.
