C002757 TWO RCAF BATTLE DRESS "CANADA" SHOULDER FLASHES.

BACKGROUND: When serving on Canadian soil, branch insignia was worn without "Canada" flashes. When serving overseas and not in Canada, all Canadian military personnel wore "Canada" shoulder flashes to distinguish themselves from other Commonwealth troops. Several colors of insignia were used by the RCAF depending on the uniform worn, light blue on a dark blue backing for air force uniforms, red on khaki-drill for battle dress or great coats and red on khaki-tan for summer uniforms

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Two rectangular khaki-drill cloth patches, about 3 3/4" wide by 2 1/8" high, with red machine embroidered "Canada" in a slight arch above a RCAF eagle. The heads on the eagles are facing opposite directions and were worn so that they were facing towards the rear. The flashes are in very good condition with some minor nap wear and the remnants of threads along their edges from where they were removed from a uniform.
