C000683 THE CAPTURE OF BUDAPEST MEDAL.

BACKGROUND: This medal was established by decrees of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet of June 9, 1945 and May 5, 1945. It was bestowed on servicemen who took a direct part in the heroic assault on the city, as well as the officers who directed the operations for their captures. The German force, which held Budapest, numbered 250,000 officers and men. They held out against the Soviet forces for 100 days. The Hungarian capital was completely encircled on December 20, 1944.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Die-struck alloy, 32mm diameter. Complete medal loop with parade mount ribbon with pin back device. Ribbon colors are red/green/red. Nice untouched condition.
