A circa 1920ís French Colonial group portrait in North Africa. Interesting mix of uniforms. The officer at far right wears a khaki jacket, leather belt and overseas cap of the 1920ís type, and a mixed group of black and white soldiers wear a mix of tropical shirts, overcoats, kepis, and berets. They are gathered around a cable-laying reel and other military equipment, including a spade. Most are wearing leggings of the WW1 type, and two of the men have embroidered black anchor devices on their collar tabs, suggesting they are Naval infantry.  Perched atop one of the boxes is a pet dog wearing an overseas cap and one man is holding a megaphone. Excellent focus and condition.  Fascinating period details evoke the French colonial project in Africa.
