C048776 "CANADIAN FORESTRY CORPS" CAP BADGE.

BACKGROUND: Originally formed in 1916, the corps was made up from the 224th Forestry Battalion and other infantry battalions whose responsibility was to clear airfields, preparing railroad ties, and providing lumber to be used in the construction of trenches, barracks, hospitals, etc. They were disbanded in 1920 to be reformed in 1940 and sent to Scotland. The Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit (1939-1946) wormed in 35 camps in Scotland and Northern England for the duration of the war when they were once again disbanded in 1946.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stamped, gilt alloy badge measuring approximately 5.5cm x 4cm made up of a circle inscribed with "Canadian Forestry Corps" with a surmounted King’s Crown with a profile of a beaver atop a small grouping of maple leafs to the bottom. A tree is central to the design. The reverse is a mirror image of the front with two lugs present.
