L019468 EM/NCO'S BREAST EAGLES. (Hoheitsabzeichen) 

BACKGROUND: The Luftwaffe pattern national eagle was originally introduced for wear by Fliegerschaft personnel on August 18TH 1934, and adopted for wear by the Luftwaffe on March 1ST 1935. The first pattern national eagle was utilized until a modified, second pattern, eagle was introduced in late 1936 or early 1937. Generally the eagle for Officers ranks was hand embroidered while the eagle for EM/NCO'S ranks was machine embroidered but machine woven eagles were also utilized in limited quantities. 

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Eleven, machine woven, second pattern, Luftwaffe eagles in white threads on a woven navy blue rayon bases. The eagles have a roughly 95mm wingspan. This machine woven eagle on a navy blue base is generally associated for wear on the mottled blue/grey shirt. Scarce original examples still on the original factory roll.
