L006284 OFFICER'S OBSERVER'S BADGE IN CLOTH. (Beobachterabzeichen)

BACKGROUND: The Observerís badge was introduced by Hermann GŲring on March 26TH 1936 for award to Observers, Navigatorís and Bombardierís, after five operational flights over enemy territory or a minimum of two months active service. As with other flyerís specialty badges a cloth version of the Observerís Badge was authorized for wear on the flight blouse with a machine embroidered pattern for EM/NCOís and a hand embroidered pattern for Officerís.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Hand embroidered badge in silver/aluminum wire threads features a stylized national eagle in flight, clutching a swastika encompassed by a vertically oval wreath with laurel leaves to the right side of wreath and oak-leaves to the left side. Embroidery is mounted on a cut-out Luftwaffe blue/grey wool base. Embroidery shows moderate to heavy chafe wear resulting in the base threads of the silver/aluminum wire being visible in numerous small areas. Luftwaffe blue/grey wool base shows moderate nap wear and minor edge fraying. Well worn example.
