(Patronenkasten) 27" x 8 3/4" x 7 5/8" softwood case with dovetailed corner joints and a slat top with tongue and groove reinforcements. The reverse of the top lid has two inset metal hinges and the obverse of the case has two inset metal pressure closure clips. The metal fittings show moderate to heavy surface spotting. Screwed on, small wooden plates are to each end of the case to secure heavy rope carrying handles. Both rope handles are included but one has torn. One end of the case has a faint impressed makerís code that appears to be "dyd," for Dr. Stange & Co. Holzbearbeitungs-u. FaŖfabrik (Wood working and barrel factory). The front of the case has the black stenciled script, "Luftwaffen-Munition Gesamtgew. 50" (Air force Munition, Total weight). The front of the case also has small remnants of a printed contents label. The case retains about 55% of its ordnance tan paint. Natural wood interior. The case shows numerous pin hole sized termite holes.
