BACKGROUND: Basic human instinct dictates that soldiers in the field, regardless of nationality, long for their loved ones at home. As a result it was very common for these soldiers to have themselves photographed and send the photos home. As today, there were also numerous other reasons to pose for a photograph, new appointments, promotions, weddings anniversaries etc., etc..

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 5 3/8" x 3 3/8", close-up, black and white portrait style photograph of a young EM wearing a navy blue Donald Duck cap and pea jacket. The visible uniform details include the cap insignia, including a "Kriegsmarine" cap talley, and a breast eagle. The reverse of the photograph has handwritten script that includes the date, "1944". The photograph is in overall good condition with light age yellowing.
