BACKGROUND: Originally introduced in the Reichsmarine in 1933 as a drill uniform, in 1940 with modifications it was issued as a summer duty uniform for EM/NCO’s. In late 1941 or early 1942 the uniform was modified again in the same style as the army’s field uniform and issued as a summer combat uniform.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Reed green, rayon/cotton blend HBT tunic features a five button front closure with single metal hook and eye at neck. Tunic has four front pockets with straight edge button down flaps. Right breast with machine woven national eagle in golden yellow threads on a cut-out woven green rayon base. Eagle is original machine stitched to tunic. Shoulder strap retaining loops and buttons intact. Lay down collar with typical zig-zag reinforcement stitching to reverse. No sign of ever having collar tabs. All the Coastal Artillery buttons look to be original stitching. Roughly size 36" chest. Nice untouched original Coastal Artillery tunic.
