J010078 (IJA) 1st PATTERN HELMET COVER.
The standard pattern, padded cover for the type 90 helmet, issued to Japanese Army troops until 1945 when the 2nd pattern cover, with its reinforced rim band, was produced. Its khaki-colored, water-resistant cloth exterior is comprised of six machine sewn pieces, meeting at the apex of the crown and gathered along their tunnel-looped base by an adjustable tie string. A five-pointed IJA star is machine sewn to the front of the cover. To the interior, its off-white liner mirrors the six-piece construction to the exterior, and is well marked with manufacturer’s and depot stamps. Cover has several long, torn through areas, of "rim wear" which is fairly common with these. Good worn and used combat vet.
