J002189 ORDER OF THE GOLDEN KITE 4TH GRADE WITH CASE.

This order is the highest award for military bravery awarded to servicemen with the class of the award based on the rank of the recipient. The silver badge features a golden plated kite with spread wings that is superimposed on two crossed, ancient samurai shields of enamel blue onto which are crossed, sheathed swords with heraldic "mitsutomoe" devices on red banners. The background of these devices is an eight pointed star with 32 rays that are enameled red. Four screws are visible to the reverse which holds the design in place. The ribbon is green with white stripes. The green color is said to represent grass that is representative to the "kusangi-no-tsurugi" (grass cutting sword) which is one of the three Imperial Treasures. The medal measures 46mm x 50mm that sits in it’s original black lacquer box that is lined in purple silk and velvet. The box measures approximately 64mm x 101mm x 30mm.
