J000784 (IJA/IJN) PILOT'S GOGGLES.
The standard army aviation goggles in use from the late 1930s until the end of the war. Distinguished by their curved "catís eye" clear glass lenses, fitted to reddish brown lacquered alloy frames which have ventilation holes to both their top and bottom, sewn to brown velveteen covered padding through pin-holes in the flange extending from the frames. A silk bridge is sewn to the interior between the lenses for the nose. A logo in the form of an overhead view of an airplane is stamped to the exterior of each lens frame alongside the hooks through which the rings for the head strap are fed. Looped through each of these rings are the pigskin ends of the head strap, each with a single black grommet to it. The 30mm wide head strap itself, in an elasticized brown material, has two alloy sliding adjustment buckles. Shows period use and wear. Nice untouched set.
