WW1 German Colonial Pith Helmet. Private purchase model for German East Africa, made by the German firm of Lüttge & Braun Hamburg , exactly as pictured on page 361 of the Kraus and Müller reference book The German Colonial Troops. White cotton covering over cork body, with pugaree-like band as seen in the reference book upper left on page 361, with an imperial Kokarde as originally purchased. Red silk liner with brown leather sweatband (chinstrap is missing) embossed with maker's name in excellent condition. Rare.
