BACKGROUND: Introduced in 1887 and officially designated as a haversack this canvas pouch was designed for carrying rations, field cutlery utensils and personal items, and was most commonly referred to as the breadbag. This pattern was used right until the end of the war in 1918.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Canvas constructed breadbag. All complete with original buttons and straps. There are no longer any visible markings, they are most probably there but now obscured by age or wear. Shows the expected age and use.
