(Erkennungsmarken Tasche)BACKGROUND: On mobilization of the German Armed Forces in August 1939 all personnel were issued an identification, (dog), tag to be worn on a cord around the neck. Following the outbreak of WWII all new recruits were issued a dog tag on their registration for military service. If killed or wounded half of the dog tag would stay attached to the individual and the other half would be sent to the appropriate administrative offices for processing. The dog tag pouch was a private purchase item that proved quite popular with the troops as it kept the potentially cold metal disc from coming in contact with the skin when worn.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Light, natural tan, soft, kid leather construction, "U" shaped pouch. Near mint.
