BACKGROUND: The German armed forces utilized a wide variety of armored fighting vehicles, anti-tank guns and assorted artillery pieces through-out the war. A standard issue accessory for all of these assorted weapons was a protective muzzle cover intended to keep the internal barrel clean when the weapon was in transit. The protective muzzle covers came in a wide variety of patterns designed to fit specific muzzle sizes.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 38cm long, 8cm diameter, coarsely woven olive drab construction cylindrical protective muzzle cover with natural tan leather and steel fittings. The opened top cover has seven evenly spaced rows of vertical, zig-zagged reinforcement stitching. The bag has a roughly, 26cm long, 20mm wide, machine stitched on natural tan leather securing strap. Strap is well marked "dny 43" for Bollmann & Co in 1943. The separate drawstring is absent. The interior of the cover is lined in very coarse reworked wool/canvas blend material. The cover is in overall very good condition with minor age and usage toning and the leather strap is slightly dry and stiff. Scarce armored vehicle/artillery accessory. Probably for a 50mm gun.
