H072778 SMALL FIELD DRESSING. (Verbandpäckchen) 

BACKGROUND: Each soldier was issued with a large and a small field dressing and given basic instruction on how to properly dress a wound. These field dressing were designed specifically to fit in the field dressing pocket situated in the bottom right front panel of the field blouse. 

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This example is the smaller version of the two and is roughly, 1 3/4" tall, 3" long, 1 1/2" wide and 3/4" thick with a protective, rubberized, waterproofed, mottled "salt & pepper" grey fabric cover with glued closure seams. The cover is well marked with black inkstamped date, "1940", and script that includes the opening and usage instructions as well as, "Im Dampfe keimfrei gemacht bei 120E", (Sterilized by 120 degree steam), and the manufacturers name and location, "Bartsch, Quilitz & Co. A.=G. Berlin N.W. 40". The dressing is in overall very good condition with light age toning.
