H040760 OFFICER'S PHOTOGRAPH POSTCARD. (Photographie Postkarte)

BACKGROUND: Basic human instinct dictates that soldiers in the field, regardless of nationality, long for their loved ones at home. As a result it was very common for these soldiers to purchase, or appropriate, "sweetheart" items and send them home. Although there was almost an unlimited selection of "sweetheart" items one of the most popular items were the photograph postcards which were relatively inexpensive, easily mailed and distinctly personal. As today, there were also numerous other reasons to pose for a photograph, new appointments, promotions, weddings anniversaries etc., etc..

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 5 3/8" x 3 3/8" mid-weight, card stock, postcard features a full length, black and white photograph of a young, uniformed Officer carrying a visor cap, arm in arm with his new bride. The Officer’s visible uniform details include, shoulder boards and collar tabs, a breast eagle, an Iron Cross 2ND class ribbon, a single place ribbon bar, a Panzer Assault Badge, what appears to be a silver Wound Badge and a sword with portepee. The reverse of the postcard has a single handwritten word that may be the name, "Karl".? The unused postcard is in overall very good condition with minor age yellowing.
