BACKGROUND: Accurate intelligence and secure lines of communication are crucial elements to all armies in the field and during WWII each division in the German Army had an integral Signals unit. The Signals unit were usually of Battalion strength and generally consisted of a Headquarters Company, a Radio Company and a Telephone Company. The Signals personnel utilized a wide variety of radio receivers, field telephones and associated communications equipment in all theaters of operation. A common piece of field communications equipment was a wide assortment of headsets and microphones that were utilized on numerous assorted radio receivers and field telephones.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The radio headset features molded, circular, black bakelite construction earphones with black painted, metal alloy backing plates, connected by a leather and metal headband. Both of the metal alloy backing plates are well marked with the impressed designation, "Dfh.G", indicating, Doppelfernhörer, (Double Telephone Receiver), model "G", the impressed date, "44", and a white ink stamped Waffen-amt. Each earphone has an electrical, connection cord, with a rubber covering fitted to their bottom edges. The rubber covered wires join into a single wire which is inserted into a tooled, black painted, magnetic sheet metal and bakelite plug housing with triple brass prongs.
