BACKGROUND: The Sword/Sabre is an age old military tradition, that evolved from a functional weapon into an item of uniform dress ornamentation by the start of WWI. This strong tradition continues in many army’s to this day as a symbol of strength and power. After Hitler’s rise to power in 1933 and the reintroduction of conscription in early 1935 a wide variety of new sword and sabre designs were introduced to outfit the rapidly growing Wehrmacht.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Eickhorn Prinz Eugen Field Marshall Model 1765 Officer’s saber. The Prinz Eugen is one of the few swords with two German eagles and swastikas in the design. Nice Eickhorn logo. Brass hilt fittings with matte, gold factory gilding remaining on the highlights and within the recesses of the dove head, backstrap, knuckle-bow and ferrule. Black celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks, chips or surface damage, and is complete with triple wire wrap. Plated blade is excellent showing light runner marks/age and no nicks or cuts to cutting edge. Blade is complete with a red leather buffer pad. Scabbard retains most of original factory enamel throughout all surfaces. Nice sword.
