H033891 EM/NCO'S BREAST EAGLE. (Hoheitsabzeichen)

BACKGROUND: The Third Reich pattern national eagle for the army was officially introduced on February 17TH 1934 and regulations decreed it was to be worn on the steel helmet, visor caps, all tunics and field blouses. Later amendments to the introductory order stipulated that the national eagle also be worn on all field caps, the sports uniform and the black panzer wrap. Generally the EM/NCO’s breast eagles came in a machine woven pattern until late in the war when embroidered and later printed pattern eagles were introduced.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Late war pattern EM/NCO’s breast eagle for use on the field blouse or shirts. Machine embroidered breast eagle with out-stretched wings, in silver/grey threads on a loosely woven, cut-out, greenish/tan cotton base. The base edges have machine embroidered reinforcements in the same silver/grey threads as the eagle.
